Winston Edwards Well Charge (1974)
Not much is known about Winston Edwards, the musician behind today’s song. He grew up in Jamaica and moved to London in the 1970s. Edwards was a business associate—and possibly a cousin—of Joe Gibbs. In both Jamaica and the UK, he operated record stores and labels while honing his skills as a producer. He played a key role in the early development of dub music, though he remains far less well-known today than iconic figures like King Tubby and Lee “Scratch” Perry. In the 1980s, Edwards left the music industry to pursue a career in law, but this venture was short-lived. He soon returned to run Studio 16, a reggae reissue business and record store in Brixton, London, which is still in operation today.
Dig Deeper

Given his strong ties to underground music, it was no surprise when London-based graphic designer and photographer Will Bankhead eventually launched a music label. In 2008, he founded The Trilogy Tapes, which quickly became a powerhouse for experimental dance music and other adventurous sounds. Alongside releases from emerging producers, Bankhead also curates and releases mixtapes under various aliases. One standout example is this mixtape by Guild 27 (one of his many pseudonyms), which features today's song.
