A Worl’ Boss Classic

A Worl’ Boss Classic

Vybz Kartel, Popcaan, Gaza Slim Clarks (2012)

In the summer of 2024, Jamaican dancehall icon Vybz Kartel was released from prison after 13 years . The musician, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, had been arrested in 2011 alongside three other men for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, whose body was never found.

Rumors of a possible early release had circulated earlier in the year, stirring excitement among fans of Worl’ Boss, as Palmer is often called. It came as no surprise when Vybz followed up with new music soon after his release. The prolific lyricist likely had a wealth of material ready to drop. But would the new tracks live up to expectations?

Just days after Palmer's release, he dropped an aptly titled track – but it wasn’t the banger fans had anticipated. More material was published in the weeks that followed, showcasing Vybz’s undeniable productivity as an artist. Still, we prefer to look back at a classic track from Vybz's discography, featuring Popcaan and Gaza Slim, from around the time Palmer was imprisoned: “Clarks” from 2012, which is today’s track.
