The Covids Banned From the USA (2024)
POV: You are young. You can’t leave the house because of a stupid pandemic. You are bored to the core. You love punk rock. What would you do?
Obviously, you start your own band, as in the case of Max Vet, Mehdi Tallal, Paul van Diggele and Sid Bierens. The Amsterdam-based quartet formed The Covids (eheh) during the first lockdown in 2020. Due to various cancellations (remember that one?), they were only able to play their first gig in the autumn of 2021. But they quickly gained momentum.
The band that labels its music as “contagious punk rock” (eheheh) toured the Dutch club circuit, played selected shows at European festivals and published a kickass debut LP. And in 2023, they embarked on a US tour.
Two members of the band had issues with their visa application (eww, paperwork!). One thing led to another, which eventually resulted in the band being banned from entering the USA. The tour was over before it started.
Obviously, that fucking sucks! But hey, what can you do? Well, as a punk rock band you can do this:
