A Dramatic Club Hit that Emerged During a Global Crisis

Sega Bodega & Låpsley Make U Stay (2020)

When in 2020 the world fell silent due to the pandemic lockdowns, Salvador Navarrete aka Sega Bodega launched Reestablishing Connection. Locked up in his flat, the Irish-Chilean artist reached out to fellow musicians around the world to jointly sing cover versions of famous pop songs. A highlight in the series is Sega Bodega and Trustfall’s cover version of Dido’s “White Flag”. The instrumentation is as sparse as the staging in the video—which probably was reduced to the max due to the spontaneity of the project—leaving the stage for the two exceptional voices modified with effects. Despite its minimalism, the project had a massive impact on Sega Bodega’s fans, providing solace during the most severe health crisis of the 21st century. Unfortunately, Sega Bodega and Trustfall’s “White Flag” is only available on YouTube. But since he is a rather prolific musician, there is other proof of his status as a pop star to be from that time, for example the dramatic club hit “Make U Stay” recorded with English singer Låpsley.
