Sam Akpro Disposition (2024)
Buses have been around since 1662, long before motorized vehicles existed. Sounds weird at first, but upon examining the etymology of the term "bus," it becomes clear: "bus" originates from "omnibus," which refers to a horse-drawn carriage operating on scheduled services. The entrepreneur Thomas Tilling refined the omnibus concept in the mid-19th century by using pre-arranged bus stops on the route from Peckham to central London, which made it easier to stick to a reliable schedule. His innovation, as banal as it seems to us today, was the blueprint for the concept of today's bus networks, which have set timetables and set stops instead of just routes. With his pioneering omnibus company, Tilling entered the annals of Peckham. Someone who could one day also be one of Peckham's notable people and pioneers is Sam Akpro. Influenced by various styles of hip-hop but also artists such as Joy Division, Prince, Ian Dury and Tame Impala, the young south-east Londoner is creating his own sound, which landed him a record deal with ANTI last year joining a list of illustrious names including Kate Bush, Tom Waits, The Black Keys, The Drums and Alfa Mist. Our favorite from Akpro's still small catalog: “Disposition”.
