Maybe Love Should Be a Little Bit Illegal…

Razzi ccp Body & Soul (2023)

All is fair in love and war, the famous saying goes, perhaps because these are the instances when we are most likely to be emotional and sufficiently emboldened to act on our best, or worst, impulses. The term “crime of passion” very likely exists for the same reason. Love can drive people to utter madness, but those are the most extreme cases. Generally people fall in love and do their best to listen to their good angel, to pursue healthy relationships and lasting bonds. But as with any worthwhile pursuit, love can be an exacting endeavor, and once we have loved truly, no matter the outcome, we are never quite the same.

Intimate relationships require sacrifice; we promise to stay even when things become difficult; we compromise and we fight for our love. And sometimes, even the most fervent battle is futile, and we must resign ourselves to a separation. Separation can feel like a part of our self is being severed, because in the process of love, we do merge with another. And in that merging, I and I become we. Individuals give up some of their autonomy, sometimes even their names and homes, definitely their pride and ego, for love.

In “Body & Soul” Razzi ccp sings “be my felony.” Who doesn’t know the feeling of falling in love so deeply that it feels wrong? The song sets a fun yet introspective mood with an afrobeat groove and tight melodies, a little something for the body and something for the soul.
