NINA Better (2020)
The state of the world as it is reported in the daily news cycle can easily inspire fear, anxiety and cynicism about the fate of humanity. While it is important to stay informed, it might behoove us to be present and remember that there are also wonders in this world, particularly at this point in history.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the average person was expected to live 32 years – not very long ago, when considering that these days there reportedly are over 500,000 centenarians. So people all over the world are living much longer. That’s something, isn’t it?
More good news! The powers that be are finally publicly acknowledging the threat of climate change. So if we can find solutions to issues like our over-reliance on fossil fuels and if we can figure out how to live longer, maybe we have it in us to eradicate war and greed too. It’s safe to say that most people want a better life, a better world, and maybe our journey as the human race is to allow ourselves to get better a little bit at a time.
London-based musician and nutritionist Nina Cristante has a fascinating outlook on how to improve our well being, and lives a life balancing careers in art and wellness. For her the two run in tandem, which is such a wonderful concept. “Better” is a delicious morsel from Cristante’s solo music project, NINA, that she operates next to being one third of the rocking indie outfit Bar Italia. The song is sweet and succinct, an experimental pop ditty with feather light vocals, longing lyrics and percussion in just the right places.
