A Monumental Song that Might Make Your Heart Sick

Les Yeux Sans Visage Heart (2012)

Blue whales are the largest animals ever known to have existed. Their enormous bodies require a high metabolic rate and oxygen supply, which is met by their massive hearts. The organ is about the size of a small car, weighing up to 440,000 pounds (200 tons).

Despite its immense size, the blue whale's heart beats relatively slowly—only around six times per minute. Nonetheless, the amount of blood that it pumps through a whale’s body is around 525,000 gallons (2,000,000 liters) in just one day.

In comparison, the human heart has a modest output. It pumps around 2,000 gallons (7,200 liters) through our veins each day. Yet our hearts are vital, as we all know, and thus we are well-advised to take good care of them. Apart from all the fun things that exacerbate the heart’s condition—eating greasy and/or sugary food, smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol etc.—extreme emotional stress can also cause harm. A severe breakup, for example.

Considering this, we don’t know whether it’s wise to listen to today’s song while suffering from heartache. But we do know that “Heart”, a monumental song by Swiss band Les Yeux Sans Visage from 2012, is a great one.
