A Bluesy Psychedelic Letter from the Past

A Bluesy Psychedelic Letter from the Past

Holly Golightly There's an End (2003)

Jim Jarmusch’s 2005 film Broken Flowers is a contemplative, darkly comedic road movie that follows Don Johnston—a jaded, Fred Perry-tracksuit-wearing bachelor played by Bill Murray—on a reluctant journey to reconnect with past lovers after receiving an anonymous letter claiming he has a son.

With Jarmusch’s signature minimalist style and deadpan humor, the film quietly explores themes of aging, regret and the elusiveness of closure. Subtle performances—especially Murray’s beautifully understated melancholy—and a moody, well-curated soundtrack give the film an emotional resonance that lingers on long after the credits roll.

One standout track is the haunting psychedelic garage rock gem “There Is an End” by The Greenhornes featuring British singer Holly Golightly. A year after the original, Golightly recorded a more bluesy and folky solo version with a warmer and wearier vibe. It’s earthy and intimate—and it’s our song of the day.
