Hi-Posi 例えばここに (1998)

Shibuya-kei (渋谷系) is a microgenre of Japanese pop music that emerged in the early 1990s out of Tokyo’s iconic Shibuya district. The term literally means “Shibuya style” and refers more to a cultural and aesthetic movement than a rigid musical genre.

Artists associated with Shibuya-kei often blended Western and Japanese pop influences, incorporating elements of bossa nova, jazz, dub, lounge, funk, 1960s pop, electronica and hip-hop.

One band linked to the genre is Hi-Posi (ハイポジ). Formed in 1988, the Japanese pop project initially featured several members but over time evolved into the solo project of vocalist, instrumentalist and songwriter Miho Moribayashi.

Hi-Posi’s discography is extensive and spans a wide range of styles. A standout track is the lush, trip-hop-leaning “例えばここに” (which translates to “for example, here”) from their 1998 album Gluon. It is our song of the day.
