Hate Ain’t No Mystery

Hate Ain’t No Mystery

Fred again…, John Martyn little mystery (2024)

Babies enter the world free from hatred. Hatred is the result of conditioning and experience over time. Acts of hate often stem from an attempt to distract oneself from deep-seated feelings of helplessness, powerlessness, injustice, inadequacy or shame.

So, for instance, anyone who believes they must work excessively hard to get ahead in life may be tempted to harbor resentment toward those born into wealth, for whom success appears effortless, such as Fred again…

Frederick John Philip Gibson, as the British artist’s birth name is, comes from a lineage of Barons, Earls, landowners, socialites. Fred not only comes from money but was also fortunate enough to be the neighbor of Brian Eno, who mentored the musician early on in his career. Fred’s family history and connections have become so widely discussed that the "early life" section of his Wikipedia page almost feels like a satirical overstatement.

Fred’s privileges aside, he also seems to have true talent. So, aptitude met birthright—and gave birth to a star.
