When Your Father Is Your Bass Player…

Fabiana Palladino Stay with Me Through the Night (2024)

The Who have sold over 100 million records worldwide since their formation in 1962. The three core members, Peter Townsend, Roger Daltrey and John Entwistle, played together for 40 years—until Entwistle died in 2002 on the eve of a North American tour. The acclaimed bassist had gone to bed that night with a stripper, who awoke the next morning to find him cold and unresponsive. The medical examiner determined that his death was due to a heart attack induced by an undetermined amount of cocaine. But as the saying goes: The show must go on. The tour started on time—with Pino Palladino on bass. For Palladino—who has long been a favorite session bassist for the rock, funk and neo-soul elite—it's likely just one of many legendary tales he can tell his children. One of these children is Fabiana, herself a talented musician, who previously released on Jai Paul's label and who just announced an album on XL Recordings (Adele, Radiohead, Arca, King Krule, and many more). And who plays bass on the album? Exactly, Dad.
