Carla dal Forno feat. Thomas Bush Slumber (2022)
In 1997, Guinness World Records announced that they would stop monitoring the record for the longest time spent awake. At that point, the record was held by Robert McDonald, who didn’t sleep for 18 days and 21 hours (!) back in 1986. Guinness World Records came to this decision due to safety concerns—which is understandable, to say the least. However, as concerns our rest, it’s not just the extreme that bears risk: Not sleeping the recommended 7 to 9 hours per night does have a negative effect on our mental and physical health. In other words, we should really listen when someone encourages us to catch our Zs, as is the case with “Slumber”, a witty duet by Australian musician Carla dal Forno and British artist Thomas Bush. In this groovy indie-pop piece dal Forno is complaining that “there's still so much to do; and so much more I want to be” while Bush tenderly responds by encouraging her to “drift off with a sigh; no longer tethered to the world outside; you're in my arms.”
